Accessible by users of any age or ability, all living areas, traffic patterns, work surfaces, appliances and storage units make it a snap to use by small children, tall adults, wheelchair users—and even pregnant cooks.

Zone A

PUBLIC AREAS: main entry, kitchen and laundry, and the living/dining areas that access an outdoor dining patio and the private courtyard.

Zone B

CONNECTING AREA: library/media/activity room, which overlooks the courtyard and links the "public" and "private" areas. An adjacent guest bedroom has a connecting guest bath, which is also accessible from the connecting hallway.

Zone C

PRIVATE AREAS: The fully accessible master bedroom suite has direct access to the courtyard and exercise pool. The Office/studio opens onto its own private courtyard.

Zone D

COURTYARD: a private courtyard "oasis" conveniently accessed from each of the other areas.

These additional features expand the transgenerational accessability:

  • Raised, weather-protected package drop-off at entry
  • Grocery package pass-through from entry  to kitchen
  • Level threshholds at all exterior entry doors
  • All electrical outlets 18" above floor
  • Rocker light switches 42" above floor
  • Convenient 18' refrigerator/sink/cooktop work triangle
  • Resilient cork floor in kitchen and baths
  • Sustainable bamboo flooring in living areas
  • Finger tip adjustable window blinds
  • Easy-to-grip lever door handles
  • 5'-0" diameter clear wheelchair turning areas throughout
  • Crank-operated windows offer panoramic views
  • Indirect and task lighting plus skylights

Shouldn't all houses be designed with the same common-sense rationale as these cutting-edge transgenerational features?
